The Mother You Became (and the Woman You’re Becoming)
May 02, 2025
Because healing after birth is more than physical—it’s an identity rebirth.
No one told me that becoming a mother would also mean losing parts of myself.
That joy and grief could hold hands in the same moment.
That I would love deeper than I ever imagined—
and still long for the version of me who felt whole, independent, uninterrupted.
They said it takes a village.
But most days, it was just me,
a baby on my chest,
and a quiet ache in my body that had nothing to do with birth
and everything to do with being new.
Because that’s what matrescence really is:
It’s not just having a baby.
It’s being born into a new version of yourself.
Matrescence Is a Transformation—Not a Diagnosis
Matrescence is the psychological, emotional, physical, and spiritual shift that happens when a woman becomes a mother.
It’s as real as adolescence.
As hormonal.
As disorienting.
As ripe with possibility.
But we don’t talk about it.
Instead, we ask women if the baby is sleeping,
if they’ve “bounced back,”
if they’re grateful enough.
But no one asks:
Who are you now?
What’s rising in you?
What parts of your old life feel foreign, and which ones still feel like home?
Postpartum Isn’t Just a Phase—It’s a Portal
Yes, your body is healing.
Yes, your hormones are recalibrating.
Yes, your nervous system is stretched thin.
But underneath the physiology, something deeper is stirring:
A shift in your values.
A rewriting of your identity.
A reorientation to time, space, love, and selfhood.
And it can feel messy.
Beautiful.
Lonely.
Liberating.
All in the same breath.
You’re Not Meant to Return to Who You Were
Let me say this clearly:
You’re not behind.
You’re not broken.
You don’t need to reclaim the “old you.”
Because the woman you’re becoming is not less—
She’s more.
More honest.
More instinctual.
More whole, even in her softness.
But she needs support.
Space.
Nutrition.
Stillness.
Witnessing.
She needs to be held, too.
You Deserve a Map for This Season
This isn’t just about mood. Or milk. Or hormones.
It’s about learning how to be you, again—
with a different center of gravity.
That’s why I support postpartum women with:
-
Nervous system regulation for real rest
-
Nutritional protocols to rebuild from depletion
-
Functional labs for hormone shifts, thyroid, and sleep
-
Gentle movement and breathwork for reconnection
-
Ayurvedic and cycle-based practices to come back into rhythm
-
Soulful coaching for identity, purpose, and emotional clearing
Because motherhood isn’t the end of your becoming.
It’s the invitation into a deeper one.
